The Concept of World State
Long before human civilization began to develop properly through science and technology, humans established kingdoms and systems of governance by subjugating one another through physical strength, deception, killing, and intimidation. From that era onward, kings driven by imperial ambitions carried out thousands of military campaigns, killing countless innocent people and conquering other nations to crown themselves as emperors. At the same time, religious authorities aligned themselves with rulers, gaining power and exploiting the people in various ways, thereby betraying them.
Those who rose in opposition to such exploitation, namely Marxist communists, also killed millions of people in their struggle to capture power and to maintain that power unquestioned according to their own will. Moreover, even after democratic systems of governance came into power in many countries of the world, the catastrophic disaster of war has not come to an end. In addition, nuclear weapons capable of completely destroying the Earth, along with many other deadly weapons, continue to be produced and stockpiled.
At the same time, the enormous sums spent annually by every nation on border security, espionage activities, and diplomacy in the name of national defense are entirely funded by the tax money contributed through the labor of the world’s people. The global community must now recognize this grave reality with utmost seriousness. In other words, the wealth created by the people of the world is being used to kill them and to destroy their immensely valuable possessions using highly expensive and deadly weapons. This is a severe injustice and a mark of extreme uncivilized behaviour.
For thousands of years, the thoughtless, inhumane, and destructive wars that have taken place across the world must come to a permanent end, regardless of the reasons behind them. If they do not, the innumerable deadly weapons created by humans may ultimately destroy the Earth itself. The terrifying truth is that the destructive weapons manufactured in the name of national security possess a striking power many times greater than what the Earth can endure. The reasons behind this are the suspicions, fears, jealousy, and above all the greed for cheap supremacy and for the wealth of others, along with imperial ambitions among nations.
The only solution to this problem is the formation of a world government, elected by the people of the world, founded upon democratic and secular principles with sovereign authority and a written constitution. For this purpose, the existing 193 sovereign nations of the world, along with their social and cultural traditions, should be retained as states according to their respective interests. By recognizing the Earth as the common motherland of all humanity, a single world nation must be established and brought under the protection of a strong democratic constitution.
Through scientific and technological advancements, the Earth has now become as small as a fingertip. Today, it is possible to observe, monitor, and even control the world while sitting in a single media room. Likewise, traveling to any part of the world within a matter of hours has become effortless. Therefore, within this small world, humanity must awaken through elevated and practical thinking to work towards the creation of a world nation.
When the Earth becomes a single nation governed by a constitution and a democratic government elected by the people, the fundamental and immediate transformation (a revolution) that will occur in the world will astonish humanity itself. It will mark the beginning of a new chapter in human history that has never before been connected with human life.
Once the concept of a world nation becomes a reality, wars—the greatest disaster on Earth—arising from fear, hatred, suspicion, jealousy, hostility, and border disputes between nations will disappear forever. Furthermore, major public problems such as religious terrorism, internal conflicts, dictatorship, hunger, poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, and homelessness will find solutions.
Every individual from any corner of the Earth will, as a global citizen, have the freedom and civil rights to choose and live in any region they prefer. By abolishing wars and destroying destructive weapons, complete world peace can be ensured. Similarly, a unified global currency system can strengthen the banking sector. The immeasurable wealth currently spent by nations in the name of defense can instead be used solely for the welfare of humanity.
Scientists will devote their efforts not to inventing new weapons of war, but to discoveries that benefit human life. When the world becomes one nation, road, railway, water, and air transportation will develop tremendously without the constraints of international barriers. In short, the political philosophy that envisions the two administrative models of World Nation and Unit Government aims to create the family, social, and material conditions necessary for every citizen born on Earth to live a joyful and fulfilling life.
These ideas are discussed in the book “The Human Vision Offered by the World Nation and Unit Government” by B. Rajendran Panavila, which presents this philosophical vision.
